Re: P/O J R Walker (20-OTU)
I have had a look at the few pages I have copies of for that period from the No.20 OTU Operations Record Book and it doesn't say much at all.
June 6th 1942, “Wellington a/c Z.T.W. D. Flt crashed at sea approx 10/12 miles E.S.E. of Peterhead. Crew of 5 all lost, no bodies recovered. Portions of wreckage and perished clothing found by H.S. Launch from Aberdeen.” H.S. = High Speed I didn't copy everything from the ORB through, so there may have been some information missing. Also I can't find him in the London Gazette, and their site is now on a go slow. With the entry for him when he became a Pilot Officer we would get his service number on enlistment to the RAF and from that the location and rough date of entry to the service. |

Alan
His service number was 118969, I have had no luck trying to find when he joined the RAF. His two sons have very little information. Indeed they never knew how he died. I have been in contact with RAF Lossiemouth station historian Sgt Tony Carlin, he is attempting to find out some more info on him. Liam |

Re: P/O J R Walker (20-OTU)
I meant his NCO service number, when he became and officer his service number will have changed, I don't know why they did this but it was standard for the RAF.

Re: P/O J R Walker (20-OTU)
I was not aware they changed the service number from NCO to Officer. Yes, why?
