Ogr. Walter, fallen on the "Ostküste", burried in Italy????
Hello!
I have some problems with this Airgunner and hope someone can help me in this forum!!! The matter concerns BS OGr. Johann Walter, on my deathcard it says, that he fell 16. Dec. 1942 "an der Ostküste" but in Gräbersuche it says that he is burried in Futa-Pass in Italy. I am seeking infos about his unit etc. etc. and hope someone can help. Thank you in advance Christian

Re: Ogr. Walter, fallen on the "Ostküste", burried in Italy????
Hi Matti,
From Luft QM's returns dated 19-12-1942 it has crew as following:- Ff Ltn Hoffmann Ff Fw Marke Bf Fw Rahme Bm Fw Hoppert (umlaut over o) Bm Gef Huttel ( umlaut over u) Bs Fw Buttner (umlaut over u) Bs Gef Muller (umlaut over u)Bs Ogef Schereter Bs Flg Lens All killed on Heimat flight when aircraft hit ground near Crimmiek(not sure of spelling). I could not see a correction note, is there a mistake in the QM's listing, Regards Brian Bines |

Matti, thanks for that as you say the unit NVM should be correct rather than the Luft. QM's returns,

Re: Ogr. Walter, fallen on the "Ostküste", burried in Italy????
Maybe it helps ...
The following are all KIA 16.12.1942 with grave at Block 6 of "Kriegsgräberstätte in Futa-Pass (Italien)": Obergefreiter Anton Müller, 09.01.1921, grave 337 Obergefreiter Johann Walter, 20.02.1919, grave 338 Gefreiter Johann Hüttel, 18.08.1922, grave 339 Flieger Theobald Lentz, 17.07.1923, grave 340 Feldwebel Lothar Marcks, 06.10.1907, grave 211 Feldwebel Gerhard Geppert, 20.12.1915, grave 212 Feldwebel Theo Rahe, 24.02.1920, grave 213 Leutnant Wilhelm Hoffmann, 17.12.1916, grave 214 Feldwebel Willi Büttner, 22.04.1900, grave 420 Haven't found however any crew with name or similar to: Bs Ogef Schereter And there is no "Crimmiek" on google maps 50 km S to Rimini. Also in italian language there rarely are words/place names with letter "K" like Crimmie"K". There are a lot of place names with initials "Ca..." 50 km S to Rimini, maybe one of those ??? http://wikimapia.org/#lat=43.4701134...&search=rimini bye, FrankieS |

Re: Ogr. Walter, fallen on the "Ostküste", burried in Italy????
Frankie, thanks for the additional info. The letters of the place name that can be made out are Cri??iek either a mis-spelling or a German version of an Italian name. With Ogef. Schereter once again a mistake or perhaps assigned to the Flight Crew and replaced by Ogef Walter at the last minute ?
