Soviet losses databases

Hi all,

Are there any alternatives to the no-longer-functioning links to the OBD Memorial website that Evgeny Velichenko provided in his sticky note on the subject?

Not a single one of the links seems to work which is very tantalising to those of us that have an interest in VVS losses.

If there is an answer to this query, can it please be added to the sticky?

Nick

Re: Soviet losses databases

On the site given by Nikita, click on ""Расширенный поиск" " to access the full-text search mode. There you can type an unit name (in Russian), and eventually a date ,and you will access the list of members of this unit killed.

Another possibility is to use the site http://allaces.ru/cgi-bin/s2.cgi/sssr/struct/main.dat and to search the unit you're interested in. Most of the referenced units will have a list a unit members attached, and their fate. For most units all crew killed in 1942 will be listed, for some, this covers the whole war.

Re: Soviet losses databases

Guys,

Thanks for your help, but what I am looking to do is to read the unit histories in the form of a war diary as a means to match German victory claims against Soviet losses on a unit by unit, day by day basis.

Can you advise me if and how this can be done using these websites or am I actually going about things the wrong way/expecting too much from the websites?

Re: Soviet losses databases

Nick,

Obviously, you take it in a wrong way. This site was created to commemorate fallen and lost army, navy etc. staff. Thus, having the books of irrevocable losses only for personnel. As regards to aircraft losses to different reasons and combat activities description they can be found in other documents but definitely not on those sites...

Nikita,

Many thanks. Your reply helps to answer my main query.
Are there any online viewable websites that help with what I am looking for?

Nick,

There are no such sites. If you have any particular inquiries on this issue, you can adress me, I have some info starting from 1942 up to 1945 regarding Soviet fighters.

Nick,
I have built up a data base of Soviet losses in the NW (that is primarily against Finland: Leningrad and Karelian Fronts, Baltic and Norther Fleet Air Forces), and I am able to answer specific questions,
Carl
