A JU88 hook, again:

good evening,

here is a hook found on a JU88 A5 crash site

(aircraft was Ju. 88 A-5 Wr 4395,from IV KG76, F1 + EV)

This hook looks very much like the one evoked in this thread (which was from a JU88 C6):

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=35483

but the numbers are different. Here, we have :

9.88.653-0210b
F&G.3115.4

Any clue as to where it was and its use ?

Thanks a lot, as usual,

GC

Re: A JU88 hook, again:

Hi Gilles

The 8-88.653 was for "Ringkühler Verkleidung" in Ju 88 B-1 (!)
but 8-88.653-0202 was small hinge, in Group 88.655 - that was again for A-4, A-8, A-11, C-6 and D-1.

I have not located exact 8-88.653-0210b in the A-4 (1941) parts catalogue but abowe part 8.88.653 -0202 looks very similar, and in my mind related.

This plane had been twice to repair, and likely had many engine power egg changes, so likely not "original" cowlings anymore, patrticularily as this was late war crash (Jan 1944). But anyways this hinge most likely belonged to Jumo 211 engine cowling cooling flaps ring (two hinges for each of them engine cooling flaps, althou different numbers for many!) It could likely used the on Ju 88 A-5, I guess.

"F&G" before .3115 1/2 might indicate indeed applicable to Jumo 211 F (abowe types) or Jumo 211 G, like the Ju 88 A-5 had.

Regards
Ed

Thanks for all this information, Ed,

I am always amazed to see how you can make a part "speak" 70 years later, with just a number.

Best rgds;

Gilles
