It seems that the aircraft in the photo could be B-24H-30-FO. Serial No. 42-95027. One of 266 in the group 42-95023 / 42-95288. Squadron 577th 23 June 1944 Target Leon - Athies Airfield (France) 17th Mission Crew Capt Graper. Melvin H . KIA 1/LT Whittemore. Warren T. POW 2/LT Ackerman. James M. POW 2/LT Rich. Clarence B. EVD 2/LT Issenberg. Milton POW 2/LT Birnbaum. Stanford I. KIA S/S Ammom. Robert H. KIA T/S Altemus. Charles V. POW S/S Lampe. Maurice POW S/S Tremlett. Robert S. KIA Aircraft took a direct hit by flak in #3 engine and bomb bay at the target, went down immediatley into a dive then pulled up slightly, rolled over and went out of control Regards Peter. |
