Russian loss on 18/4 1945

It is reported that an Russian aircraft crashed into the Baltic Sea on the afternoon of 18/4 1945 about 10 minutes of sailing east of the town of Svannike on the Danish island of Bornholm.
On the 19/4 a dinghy and some human parts were found in the sea.
Can any of the experts on the Russian airforce tell me what aircraft it was and the name(s) of the crew.

Re: Russian loss on 18/4 1945

Hello!

51 MTAP lost two Bostons 18.4.1945. See loss list for the unit at:
http://www.bellabs.ru/51/Analysis/Losses_1.html

You can crunch it through Babelfish (Altavista) translator to get something out of it.

It seems one of the 18.4.45 Bostons (l-t Sushitskiy) was broken in crash landing "small Bryusterort" (small if the "м." stands for maliy) but crew survived.

The other Boston with l-t Koltashenko and crew dissappeared without news "southern part of the Baltic sea".

Hope this helps some,
Kari

I believe it's Brüsterort/Ostpr. or Mayak/Kaliningrad. M is for city/mesto.

all the best,
Pawel

Re: Russian loss on 18/4 1945

Hello Pawel and others too!

Good info. I used my Russian-Estonian vocabulary (because it's more comprehensive than my Russian-Finnish one) and it gave only "more - sea" and "maliy - small" for the "m.". "Mesto" is surely the right one though. Thanks.

Kari

Kari, just remembered from my russian lessons in high school city is 'gorod' actually but m. is probably for 'mestnost' or village, spot

Well, it is минно-торпедный авиационный полк (minno-torpednyi aviatsionnyi polk) or sth. like mine-torpedo aviation regiment.

all the best,

Gentlemen, your versions are incorrect. Here "m." could have only two meanings:

1. "mys" = cape
2. "mayak" = lighthouse ("majakka", Kari)

I don't remember what exactly they wrote mentioning Bruesterort, but it seems they meant Bruesterort lighthouse. I can look at my recordings at home, if needed.

Re: Russian loss on 18/4 1945

Hi
A Russian reading friend of mine from Poland translated it to Bruesteort Lighthouse. We are now contacting the chap who runs the home page to get futher info about the plane that went down in the sea.
