Focke-Wulf 190 W/N 5424 info request

I am new to these forums and am looking for information relating to the following:

Focke-Wulf 190A-3 Werkenummer 5424, of 10(Jabo)./JG2, based at Caen-Carpiquet, pilot Joachim von Bitter, lost off Teignmouth 10/1/43.

I have tried to find what the individual number was painted on the fuselage of this aircraft, so far without success.

From pictures of other machines in the Staffel, the markings seem to be (number) + <- (staffel colour in blue).

It could be that the information does not exist but if someone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

Not having daily access to the Internet may mean a delay in responding to any replies but I will endeavour to acknowledge any help as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

I am afraid that the individual aircraft number was not recorded by the Germans. The full story of this attack together with photos of Bitter, his grave, one of the Fw 190s damaged in the attack, the RAF pilots that intercepted the attack is covered in some detail on pages 169-173 of my book 'Luftwaffe Fighter Bombers over Britain'

I did wonder if this was the case. I have seen the book in question online during previous searches.

Thanks for the assistance.

Hi
was this the one shot down close to the shore ?
if so i once saw a photo of the tail in the Sq mess at exeter
think the 190 was salvaged, so there should be a report somewhere, it might list the code
cheers jerry

The K report makes no mention of any salvage, wreckage or code only that the pilot's body was washed ashore at Dawlish Warren
