Gerhard Herzog JG26

Is Gerhard Herzog of 6./JG26, the same pilot of NJG1 later KIA 20 Oct-1943 or are two different persons?

Re: Gerhard Herzog JG26

The JG 26 guy was a POW in MAy 1940. I have no record of him being released. There was also a Gerhard Herzog in ZG 76. This more likely your guy.

Re: Gerhard Herzog JG26

He was POW near Antwerp, Belgium. As germans occuped this country I could guess he was released, as happened to german pilots during the Battle of France

According to Caldwell's 'JG26', Fw Gerhard Herzog 'fell into the hands of the BEF, and was spirted across the channel, fated to spend the rest of the war in Canada'. So the ZG76 Herzog may be your nightfighter, because it certainly isn't the JG26 one.
