2/(F)123 Loss over Cyprus, 31.08.1943.

Hi All,
I am seeking any information on the loss of a Ju 88, D?+1T, of 2/(F)123, it was apparently was on a recon flight, any info on the circumstances of this loss, and the fate of the crew, would be a great help, a "K" report, if there is one, would be even better.
Thanks in advance.
Joe.

Re: 2/(F)123 Loss over Cyprus, 31.08.1943.

Joe,

I only have a Bf 109G-4 from 5(F)./123 lost on that day over the channel - nothing about a Ju 88. Although the unit's Flugzeugbestand und Bewegengsmeldungen states the monthly strength of Ju 88s fell by 7, it doesn't say to what cause these aircraft were lost. Does anyone know the circumstances....?

regards

Adam

Hi.

The loss record for this Ju 88 is as follows:

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=115375

The (Cypern) indicates the target assigned for the flight, thus the flight was scheduled to reconnoitre Cyprus.

This is not my main area of interest, but if you find more information I would be glad to be able to include it in the database.

Seems that the unit reported an entirely different callsign than you have from your sources Joe, but they could be equally right or wrong, although it seems the unit used the 4U code

Regards,
Andreas B

Thanks to Adam and Andreas,
The only small amount of additional info, so far, is the dates of birth of the crew;
Uffz Helmuth Danders, 01.08.21.
Lt Gerhard Wenske, 17.02.22.
Uffz Kaspar Walter, 05.02.22.
Gefr Erich Dreckskage, 13.03.22. (I have this name spelt Drexhage, via Frau Smolka at the WASt.)
Joe.
