B-17 Loss 6 Sep 43

Does anyone have any record of a B-17 crashing in the Bresle/Beauvais area 1315 hrs on the above date? According to the pilot that shot it down, the crew all baled out but evaded capture although he thought one, who was wounded, was later captured. Any link to a MACR would be appreciated

Re: B-17 Loss 6 Sep 43

Chris,

Excellent website www.b17-france.org gives 42-3455 and 42-5843 to have crashed near Beauvais on 6 Sept 1943.
For both it says that B-17s had run out of fuel. All crews concerned POW.

Regards,

Leendert

Chris a few others that might work (I have no idea if they're near Beauvais); all reported lost to fighters.

388 BG
  • MACR 3113 "near Sarbonne"
  • MACR 3115 "near Toryes"
  • MACR 3126 "near Goudray
  • MACR 3129 "near Toryes"
  • MACR 3132 "near Mesnil"
  • MACR 2409 "near Montgeux"

Thanks gentlemen. The B-17 link is excellent. The ac attacked was by itself so possibly it was low on fuel and they baled out at the time the FW 190 was closing in
