6/KG2 Dornier crash 31st July 1942 atr Cheveley in Cambridgeshire
Hi everyone I am researching the crash of KG2 Dornier 217 at Cheveley in Cambs for my forthcoming publication, a/c had been to Birmingham / Wolverhampton when it was hit by flak on its return flight. Crew all baled out and survived. A/C hit ground, slid along passing through Cheveleley Park boundary wall, and some oak trees (some of which still bear scars) and came to rest across Duchess Drive... I would be very interested to see if anyone knows the location of any existing crash scene photographs, or of U5+FP while it was based at Eindhoven or even crew photographs. I have tried all resouce pools I know of to no avail. Further details below, thanks all....Julian
PS I can contacted on j.evenhart@ntlworld.com..... probably the quickest as I only check forums 1-2 times a week Aircraft Dornier Do 217 E-4 Date July 30-31st 1942 at night. Coded U5+ FP Werk Nummer 5482 Location Crashed at Duchess Drive, Cheveley in Cambs Crew Hauptmann A Kindler (Staffel Kapitan) Stabsfeldwebel A Schirmer Oberfeldwebel W Kostka Oberfeldwebel A Horch |

I have a photo of Kindler. I contacted him a few years ago but he was not keen to correspond. I have many photos of Do 217s but not of that machine

Re: 6/KG2 Dornier crash 31st July 1942 atr Cheveley in Cambridgeshire
Hi Chris,
I have one showing Kindler with three colleagues in Canada is this the one you have?. If not please may I see the one you have? if you could send as an attachment to my personal Email j.evenhart@ntlworld.com that would be great. Kindler must be quite old now I guess. If you have no objection, I would dearly like to at least make some contact attempt with Herr Kindler as I have information he may find interesting.......if you agree please send his contact details to my personal Email address, I will make it clear to him / his family where I sourced his details from....I understand Glyn Warren was also in contact with Kindler via Gangl some years ago................... Im working on War Torn Skies Cambs and have had a fantastic response so far, at times I have been so close to photographs of this crash only to lose them right at the end of the line of research.......bet they exist somewhere though......there were loads of Army up in the Park at Cheveley........Cheers again Chris |

I believe that Kindler is long gone and as he was not keen, will not bother his family on your behalf. I would be most interested to know where you got the same photo as me as I got this from the family of another KG 2 pilot and as far as I was aware, I was the only person to ever contact them. However, I did supply copies to others so wonder how they could have passed this on to you?

What goes round comes round, Mr Goss, and I have a l-o-n-g memory for such things.
Perhaps you are considering claiming copyright on this picture too ? BC |

Re: 6/KG2 Dornier crash 31st July 1942 atr Cheveley in Cambridgeshire
Hi Chris..............I have had the Kindler photo for quite some time now. Funny just before I keyed back into this forum two other sources (an ex KG76 pilot`s family, and another KG2 pilots family) gave me the Kindler family contact details .....now thats what I call a small world.......although as you say he was not keen on correspondence it doesnt logically follow that his family arent, they may be very proud of his very experienced wartime exploits I probably wont contact them.......although at least I may decide for myself now. Im going to produce the fullest account ever completed on this incident and once finished will have no hesitation in sharing it with all, and it may be used anywhere ..........so long as Im quoted as the source.............. I have ensured that I have true copywrite here............just to be safe. As always thanks for your assistance and help on Cambridge aviation incidents....Jules
