Lt Leopold Zaus
On 29-04-1943 a FW-190A-5 of 2/JGI, serial 2615 crashed in Vaassen. Its pilot, Lt Leopold Zaus was killed.
Does anybody has more information about the pilot, plane or crash? Thanks! karel |

Re: Lt Leopold Zaus
Hello,
I found this: On 29th of april 1943 around 20.30 hrs a Focke Wulf is flying above Vaassen, but then the plane came down with high speed. The plane hits the top of a tree and one of the wings hits the rooftop of the house of the Timmermans family and crashes behind the house. The house is burning and Mr. Timmermans got injured to the head. That day Lt. Leopold Zaus was on a trainingsmission and it seems to be a easy day. But then Lt. Zaus started coughing and past out, and the plane came down. Leopold Zaus was born on 11-10-1923. It was not his first flight because he already earned the frontflugspange in bronze. Schwarze 9 was the name of his plane. source: Gevallen helden by Gerrit and Silvie Kamphuis |
