Info on Fw190A-9 Werknr. 206179?

Gentlemen,

is there any further info on Fw 190 A-9 Werknr. 206179 from I.(?)/JG 301, which can be found here: http://bp0.blogger.com/_6cCo5oLDQCc/...201466577B.JPG

The Werknummer also could have been 205179 or 208179. Two further photographs, maybe showing the same aircraft can be found on this site:

http://lwcollectibles.blogspot.com/s...label/Fw%20190

Looks like it was used for ground attack missions, but was damaged prior to its last mission (bomb still attached!) and was left at the spot.

Any help, like location, tactical number etc?

Cheers,
Christian

Hi

The Fw190 is fro the II./J.G.301! Look at the vertical beam at the RVB.

Hi Reiner,
JG 301 was an exception to the normal system of Gruppe markings. It seems that every Gruppe used a horizontal bar, but in different colors. This theory was figured out by different Luftwaffe researchers some years ago, the colors are thought to have been the following:

Stab - blue bar
I. Gruppe - white
II. Gruppe - red
III. Gruppe - yellow
IV. Gruppe - green

Of course this theory is not free of discrepancies, e.g. if I recall correctly, no representative aircraft with a yellow horizontal bar is known so far. Others did not carry any horizontal bar at all, but this theory is the best we got on JG 301's unique marking system.

Jerry Crandall is working on a book on this unit I believe. Maybe he has discovered anything new and/or definitive here.

Cheers,
Christian
