Martin Fiebig
During the Stalingrad airlift operations, Fiebig was appointed "Air Supply Chief".
What is the exact translation in German, I have not been able to find it on the net? Thanks. Chris |

Re: Martin Fiebig
A check of our officer personnel files confirms my recollection that it was Kühl who was in charge of transport operations during Stalingrad. For these guys we have the following career data:
FIEBIG, Martin. (DOB: 07.05.91 in Rösnitz/Oberschlesien). 01.05.34 entry into the Luftwaffe with a rank of Maj. and appt Kdt. Fl.H. Greifswald. 1936 promo to Obstlt. 01.03.37 Obstlt., appt Kdt. Fl.H. Guderian. 01.08.40 appt Chef für Flugsicherheit/RLM. 01.04.41 promo to Gen.Maj. 02.04.41 appt Nahkampfführer/IV. Fl.Korps while retaining his former position. 01.06.41 appt Nahkampfführer/II. Fl.Korps. 25.07.41 injured in Fi 156 crash. 15.11.41 appt Nahkampfführer 2/VIII. Fl.Korps. 01.04.42 promo to Gen.Lt. 12.04.42 appt Kdr. 1.Flieger-Div. 11.05.42 awarded DKG. 01.07.42 appt Kommandierender Gen. VIII. Fl.Korps. 23.12.42 awarded Eichenlaub (other sources state that he was nominated for the Eichenlaub but did not receive it before the war ended). 01.03.43 promo to Gen.d.Fl. 22.05.43 appt Kommandierender Gen. X. Fl.Korps. 22.05.43 concurrently appt Befehlshaber Lw.-Kdo. Südost. 01.09.44 assigned to Führerreserve OKL. 01.02.45 appt Kommandierender Gen. II. Fl.Korps. 12.04.45 appt Komm.Gen.u. Befehlshaber Lw.-Kdo. Nordost. 08.05.45 into British captivity. 06.02.46 into Yugoslavian captivity. 10.09.47 sentenced to death for alleged war crimes. †24.10.47 executed in Belgrade. KÜHL, Dr. Ernst. (DOB: 18.03.88 in Breslau). World War I veteran. 1936 entered the Luftwaffe. 09.39 Hptm.(d.R.) in KG 55. 1940 in Stab/KG 55 (30.09.40). 30.09.40 WIA - shot down by 609 Sqdn. ditched in the Channel and rescued by Seenotdienst aircraft. 31.03.41 Maj., appt Kdr. II./KG 55 (to 26.08.42). 20.12.41 Maj., awarded Ehrenpokal. 04.42 promo to Obstlt.(d.R.). 27.08.42 awarded DKG, II./KG 55. 27.08.42 appt Kommodore KG 55 (to 07.08.43). 26.10.42 Oberst (d.R.), Kommodore KG 55, awarded the Ritterkreuz in recognition of the completion of 230 combat missions. 11.42 concurrently appt Transportfliegerführer 2 (a.k.a. (“Lufttransportführer Morosowskaja”) (to 02.43). 08.43 appt Fliegerführer Nord (West) (to 02.44). 18.12.43 Oberst (d.R.), awarded Eichenlaub for service as Kommodore KG 55. 01.02.44 Oberst, appt Kdr. 3. Fliegerdivision (to 01.06.44). 03.44 appt Fliegerführer Nordmeer (Norway) (to 04.44? Order probably rescinded). 06.44 appt Fliegerführer 4 (Norway) (a.k.a. “Fliegerführer Drontheim”) (to 01.45)? 01.45 appt Kdr. 5. Flieger-Div., Narvik (to 03.45). 03.45 proposed by OKL to take over 14. Flieger-Div. in NW Germany, but events prevented this from happening. Credited with 315 combat missions during the war. 09.47 released from British internment. †02.02.72 in Münster. Thus the reason you could not find Fiebig's Stalingrad transport title on the net is because he didn't have one. Kühl's title was "Transportfliegerführer 2". HLdZ DGS |

Re: Martin Fiebig
Thanks, Doug. Excellent.
However, Fritz Morzik himself wrote that Fiebig was temporarily relieved of his command of VIII. FK to replace GenMaj V. Carganico as "Air Transport Chief (Stalingrad)" - the text is in English. My main source for ranks and posts is the excellent Axis Biographical Research site. However, for some reason they give them in English. Anyway, Pawel was right, the exact translation is "Lufttransportführer". Merci to all who took a few minutes of their time to answer me. Chris |
