2/KG2 June 09 1940

Hi all,

According to GC2/4 Diary, Curtiss H-75 shooted down at least 2 german bombers on june 9 1940. French pilot said they fought against He111 but it seems it was Do17 from 2./KG2. Could anyone confirm that this unit lost 2 planes at this dates ? Any place and hours ?

2./KG2 Dornier Do17Z. Returned badly damaged in attacks by GC II/4 and GC I/5 over Cormicy during sortie to attack artillery positions near Trigny, north-west of Reims. BO Fw Josef Förster slightly wounded - admitted to hospital in Trier, rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft 100% write-off.

2./KG2 Dornier Do17Z. Forced-landed at Charleville-Mezières badly damaged in attacks by GC II/4 and GC I/5 over Cormicy during sortie to attack artillery positions near Trigny, north-west of Reims. BF Fw Friedrich Lübbing killed, BF Gefr Heinz Kanow badly wounded - admitted to hospital in Charleville, rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft 100% write-off.

According to Balke, 2./KG 2 suffered a total of 2 crew wounded and one killed near Comerey during attack on Trigny. According to him Kanow was the only casualty in the 2nd aircraft, the BF being killed in the first aircraft. He also says both aircraft suffered no damage which is supported by other records

....and why does Balke differ from what both John Vasco and Peter Cornwell say?

How can one individual get killed and two wounded without any damage to their aircraft?

I could not refrain myself...but maybe the bullets entered by the open window for refreshment that the crew (hottly pursued) may have opened? Or....the French pilots, like Fonck were using few bullets and were fully trained snipers, so 1 shot one kill.

Now returning to Historical grounds...it is interesting to see such divergence regarding to the damages on books published by great Historians.

Strange as Matti and Balke make no mention of any noticeable damage let along a complete write off
