Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4

Hi guys, can anybody provide the usual loss details for this a/c. of 5/KG4.

Lt.d.R Willi Diesel F.
Fw Wilhelm Jager Bo.
Fw Walter Lehmann Bf.
Uffz Alwin Engel Bm.

Taken off from Eindhoven 03.15 hrs for a raid on England 21.9.40.
A quick scan at Winston G Ramsey's Battle of Britain Then and Now, fails to list this a/c and crew?

Best regs,
Steve.

Steve,

It is there but with an extra digit which was added in error - sorry. Herewith details from my revised copy:

5./KG4 Heinkel He111P-4 (2868). Crashed and burned out at Eindhoven due to engine failure on take-off on sortie to England 2.15 a.m. Lt Willi Diesel, and Fw Wilhelm Jäger killed. Uffz Alwin Engel badly injured, admitted to Binnensiekenhaus in Eindhoven. Fw Walter Lehmann slightly injured, also admitted to hospital in Eindhoven. Aircraft 5J+EN a write-off.

Good morning Peter, yes it is there! dont know how i missed it, although it never occured to me to look under KG40 losses, instead.
Many thanks for the clarification.

Best regs,
Steve.

Peter i have another anomaly! Do you have anything for the same Gruppe this being 5J+SM W.Nr 1543 lost on 6.9.40 He111P-2 , I have this being reported as a " total loss. " Sorry no crew details or location, sadly no source noted either!

Hi,

1543 crashed at Stettin after instrument/equipment failure during a local flight. Crew baled out, one killed ('chute failure?). No other detail at present!

Regards

David

Steve,

Little to add to what David has said, other than the name of the pilot who was killed, Uffz Helmut MARTIN, of 6./KG4. His loss occurred at 23.30 hours (German time) over the Dammscher See near Stettin. I can also confirm the date was September 6, 1940.

Hey guys, it is typical for this book to report individual aircraft crashes such as this. Interesting enough, I am looking for a crash for an Observer from the same staffel for Sept 7 '40.

Thanks,
David
