Sgt Bjarne Aasberg 332 Squadron - Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Discussion Forum

Dear researchers,

Some time ago, a message was posted on this Board witch regard to the whereabouts of Sgt Bjarne Aasberg, 332 Squadron, who crashlanded with Spitfire NH425 AH-S near Driehuizen, The Netherlands, on 16th April 1945. He managed to escape and was hidden by the Dutch Resistance till the Liberation, some 3 weeks later.
The tail wheel of his Spitfire has survived the war and is now used for a restoration project.

Although I remember that there wasn't additional info on Sgt Aasberg, for instance if he's still with us these days. Probably the Norwegian community on this Board can point me in the right direction for approaching the right Norwegian organisations to obtain more info?

Hi Paul,

The tail wheel was one of the items the ARG possessed, no idea where it came from. Perhaps a farmer used it till that time. Johan should know more about it?

Thanks. A few years ago Rob and I searched the spot and found 20 mm and .50 shells and also the brass oxygen dial from the cockpit. Must still have it somewhere..

Got msg via AAF.com about this earlier today, so I thought I should join this forum. Did not find Bjarne S. Aasberg (332 Squadron) in Phone Book doing nationwide search. The history about 132nd Norwegian Fighter Wing (by Helge Mehre) tells that the Wing continued to support 1st Canadian Army flying armed recce on April 16th 1945, a total of 111 sorties, target was mainly traffic on minor roads. 332 Squadron reported Sgt Bjarne S. Aasberg missing after an emergency landing south of Alkmal (guess it should be Alkmaar). He returned a few days later.

Is the "history about 132nd Norwegian Fighter Wing (by Helge Mehre)" a book, or an article? What is the title, publisher and year of publication, and where can it be purchased?

"SPITFIRE" by Helge O. Mehre,Universitetsforlaget (University Press),Oslo,1982. ISBN 82-00-06284-8.

Haven't seen the book in second-hand shops for many years now.

Aasberg is reported to have passed away several years ago.
