Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Good morning I was wondering if anyone could help with my enquiry.
Gefrieter Karl Hagemann apparently claimed 2 kills, both P47s on the day that he was shot down in 18th December 1944. I had a look at US losses for that day and no P47 aircraft were lost to air combat. Apparently there is mention of his victories in the jäger blatt 1/2005 which I can't access and am waiting for volume 2 of mombeeks storming the bombers which describes the action. His logbook does mention air combat with 40 P51 & P40 aircraft in which he was shot down and hospitalised. Can anyone help at all regarding confirmation of his kills ?, or further information on this flier ?
Thank you in advance
Ben

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Hi Ben,

in Mombeek's book on JG4 both claims are recorded under 19.12 and not 18.12 as well as his loss in combat over Wispertal

regards

Alessandro

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Hi Ben,

In Prien’s book about the Jagdfliegerverbände, only the victory of the St.Kap. of Gefr. Hagemann has been noted: Hptm. Manfred Köpcke, a P-47 over the Hunsrück area.
Probably Gefr. Hagemann never filed his 2 victories, as he was shot down during the ait Battle with about 20 Thunderbolts and Severly wounded.
In the book is a picture of Hagemann with a nurse taken end of march 1945 when he was finaly getting better.
Kind regards,

Dirk

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Good evening Ben,

according to his Flugbuch he bailed out of his 190 on 19th at 15.30 hrs.

Opponents of 1., II. and IV./JG 4 were the P-47 of 78.FG, 83.FS. This unit clamied 5 Bf 109 and 2 Fw 190 destroyed, one 109 damaged and suffered no losses.

Hagemanns crate came down appr. 2 km E of Lorch/Rhine in the valley of the river Wisper. The impact was still visible 10 years ago, incl. several shattered remains of this bird.

Regards,

Heuser

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Ben,

It is part 13/IV in a series of books calles “Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945”. It’s a series of books about the history of the german fighter force from it’s birth up till the end of the war on all fronts. The books provide some historical overview, a list with the commanders of the geschwader/Gruppen and Staffel when known, and also a list with victory and losses. You get also info about the a/c used when a new model starts showing up in the inventory, in this part it goes over the Bf 109G-6,G-14,K-4,G-10,Fw 190A-8,A-9,D-9, Me 262A and Me 163B.
The six volumes of part 13 tackles about the missions in defence of the german homeland (Reichsverteidigung) and in the west during the year 1944.
I order mine at the ‘Christian Schmidt Fachbuchhandlung’ in Germany.
Kind regards and Enjoy the sunny we.

Dirk

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Thanks for the information Dirk, I have ordered Mombeeks storming the bombers part 2 from Christian Schmidt book store and am expecting it soon, it is not as detailed as your scholastic books but hopefully it shall answer my questions. I purchased Karl Hagemanns Flugbuch photographs and some documentation recently.

Re: Karl Hagemann JG 4 claim

Your welcome Ben. Although not as detailed, they are good reading. Especialy the personal accounts of some of the pilots involved, such as of Karl Hagermann.
Kind regards

Dirk
