Unit insignia help. Crashed Ju 52.

Any help with identifying this unit insignia would be most appreciated.

Appears to be a picture of an Owl?

I believe the photo was taken sometime between 01.1942 and 03.1942 either at Rshew or near Spas-Demensk on the Russian front.

Regards
David

Hi David,

Could be Westa 26, see attachment, looks very similar indeed.

Melvin

David, if you have the time correct, it can't be Westa 26 because they were in the Med. Perhaps it belongs to Fliegerfurhrerschule C 16 that was perhaps caught up in the trawl for transport planes to supply Stalingrad.

Melvin, as I get older I find the eyesight issue is the least of my problems: missing the mouth with the beer glass is far worse

Thank you for the replies so far.

Someone has also suggested it could be 2.(F)/Nacht, but no sample insignia was provided?

Regards
David

Hi David,

Here s 2.(F)/Nacht drawing and an original photo. It's a circle and not a shield, so this one is unlikely, plus what would a recce staffel be doing with a Ju52?

Cheers

Chris
