![]() Hello,
Can any board member tell me whether Junkers 52's carried out any operations over the UK during the war. The reason I ask is because among my late father's souvenirs is a Nazi pilot document belonging to a German Ju 52 pilot by the name of Erich Hulsmann, complete with all his details and a photograph. My dad was born in Stepney, London in 1932 and had moved out to Billericay, Essex later in the war and consequently saw a fair bit of the aerial combat as an aeroplane mad young boy. I think he spoke of crashed aircraft and bombsites etc. and I wondered if this document could have been retrieved from a wreck? Any info/ suggestions gratefully received. Re: Ju 52 WW2 UK Operations?
If you post the name of the pilot it might help, I think most of the Luftwaffe crashes around Billericay were in the 1940 period, with a 1944 crash at Wickford. If the pilot was from any of these he may have flown a Ju52 at some stage but would have been flying another type in any crash in this area. There is a small museum in Billericay High St. which has some relics info. on local crashes.

Re: Ju 52 WW2 UK Operations?
Thanks Brian, that is helpful. By chance I will be travelling up to Billericay this month to visit a long lost friend of my dad's from the 1940's&50's. He mentioned something about a small collection of aero engines etc. I think he said was his in the high street. I expect that is the very same one - I'll ask him about it.
My post has been edited to show the pilot's name: he was Erich Hulsmann. |
