Raid on Plymouth 16.11.1943

Hallo,

I've got a feldpostletter from Obltn Waldemar Ludwig who writes that Klaus Dicke was missed after a raid on Plymouth. He writes that they left from Vannes (Bretagne) at 04.00 on 16.11.1943. He stated that the attack was succesfull and that Plymouth was burning. He didn't seen that the aircraft of Klaus Dicke was shot down.
Can someone tell me what kind of aircraft Klaus Dicke was flying and whether he was shot down?
The feldpostnumber on the letter is L 39760 (Lgpa Bentheim-Amsterdam). To which unit belongs this number?

Thanks

According to Ulf Balke's "Der Luftkrieg in Europa", the raid was by 36 Do 217s of KG 2 with six Ju 88s and four Ju 188s drawn from KG 6 and KG 66.

Klaus Dicke belonged to 8./KG 2. The Feldpostnummer is the number for III./KG 2.

John.

Re: Raid on Plymouth 16.11.1943

Hi
Just an update, I have been away from the board, back on a quick visit.

From my card index, ( I believe the source was from the PRO / NA during the 1970's )

' Plymouth 6000' A/A, seen to fall in flames into sea , 0545 hrs '

My main notes are packed as I have just emigrated to canada, and they won't unfortunately be available for quite a while, so can't confirm the info source.
Cheers
jerry
