Re: Lancaster, ND404, 15.02.1944

Uwe,

There's something special about this loss. Among the crew members was an American, F/O Leon E. Oldmixon from Nassau County, NY.

Even though it involved an RAF Lancaster, the Americans also made a report because of that one missing American: MACR 8804.

I can't help you with a precise crash location. Hit by Flak over Braunschweig.

Gruss,

Leendert

Hi Uwe and Leendert,

The Macr in question doesn't give much details about the crashlocation : only 'Presumed over Berlin'. I have a copy of the macr in question. Please contact me via pm.

Best regards from Belgium

Luc

Re: Lancaster, ND404, 15.02.1944

thx leendert, peter and luc.

@ leendert - the crash position is in the area where I am living, near Minden, a small town called hille. many miles away from braunschweig, the plane flew at least without crew, which bailed all out.
It was a real self-landing.

@ peter - who of the crew was the pilot or copilot or observer or gunnar etc. ?

grüße
