Information Requested

So I'm writing a short historical fiction story for school about two fighter pilots in the Solomon Islands in World War 2.

Where can I find information outlining the Solomon Island USMC Air Operations? I'd like to keep it somewhat accurate even though it's a historical fiction piece.

If this has been answered in a sticky or somewhere else, I apologize, but I'd like a nudge in the right direction.
