II./JG 2 - June 1944
Gentlemen,
II./JG 2 returned to France after a short spell of rest and refit at Gütersloh on 14 June 1944. It returned to its former base at Creil at first but was immediately sent to small landing strips near Creil as the former base was too exposed to US carpet-bombing. In several original sources one of the landing strips is given as Baron which was said to have been situated some 20 kms southwest of Creil. I cannot find a place by the name of Baron there but a place named Boran-sur-Oise. Can anybody enlighten me whether this was in fact the location of the Gruppe's landing strip in mid June 1944 ? Any help will be gratefully appreciated. KR Jochen Prien |
