Re: 'Henschel Hs 129 In Detail' is now available
Hello Hans,
Thank you for your kind words regarding my latest book on the Henschel Hs 129. On page 92, among the technical details, I mentioned the followiong: "Powerplant. (...) Bottom of cowling protected by 5 mm armour plate". Although I am no expert in ballistics, I believe 5 mm armour is adequate protection from small arms fire for a radial engine - which, by construction, was able to take lots of punishment - although the pilots, of course, would have like to have more, which, in turn, would have affected the flying characteristics. However, your source is correct, the overwhelming majority of Hs 129s were shot down by ground fire on the Eastern Front, not enemy fighters - despite most of the claims filed by fighter pilots. Would it be possible for you to forward me a scan of the report you quoted, referring to the Hs 129? Thank you, in advance.
