07:55 - 08:20 (M) performing escort for a Pe-2 photo reconnaissance mission were the Yak-1 fighters of the 563 IAP. At an altitude of 4000 - 4500 m from out of the sun the escort fighters were jumped by 6 Fw 190 and a dogfight ensued. Mladshiy Leytenant Dmitriy Minenkov of 563 IAP was shot down in his Yak-1 and crashed 7 km north of Ponyri. He was listed as missing until the wreckage was found at the crash site in 2020. Oblt. Alfred Messerschmidt Stab I/JG 51 LaGG-3 (4) 07:35 at an altitude of 2500 m PlQu. 35 Ost/63561
