Umbrella in a bombsight insignia for 8./KG4?
Hello,
Relating to my question just posted about the 1. or I./KG30 umbrella in a bombsight insignia, there is another similar insignia but not having a white shield background like the other insignia, that we've located on the noses of at least three Ju88s about mid to fall 1940. One definitely has KG4 codes for an 8 Staffel a/c, and the other two could be 8./KG4 aircraft. We know that about 9.40, III./KG4 was re-designated III./KG30, but this insignia apparently had nothing to do with the one used on I./KG30 aircraft since the beginning of the war. Does anyone know anything about the use of this insignia?
We also have examples of 7./KG4 aircraft carrying a bat superimposed over a moon insignia during the 9-10.40 time period. We know, however, of examples during the BoB of 7./KG30 aircraft carrying the diving eagle insignia and no bat-over-moon insignia, which seems to have been carried initially on 7./KG4 Ju88s, then later on 7./KG30 aircraft after III./KG4 was renamed. I know of no unique 9./KG4 insignia on Ju88s of that period. Does anyone else know anything about these insignias, when they were first used, and when they disappeared? Were the codes and insignias on III./KG4 aircraft continued in use on III./KG30 Ju88s for some period of time after the re-designation from III./KG4 took place?
Any photos that would help clarify these issues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advance,
