Umbrella in a bombsight insignia of 1./KG30

Hello,

Several of us in the EOE Working Group are debating about the above insignia of 1./KG30, which apparently was created before the famous Gesch diving eagle on a colored shield was used. This insignia has appeared in several publications as that of 1./KG30, but I've seen evidence that it may have been used by I./KG30, and not just 1. Staffel. Initially this appeared on the forward fuselage, but then was later moved to the outboard engine nacelles when the Gesch insignia started being applied. Does anyone have any conclusive evidence either way on this issue?

Regards,

I can confirm that it was used by 3. Staffel. Have pictures of it.

Uffz Werner Mattner of 3/KG 30 crash-landed his 4D+AL in Denmark on 16 Mar 40-his ac had said insignia on the cowlings. There is also a photo which shows 4D+CH with said badge plus the diving eagle so it would point towards I Gruppe

Re: Diving eagle on a colored shield insignia of 1./KG30

I have photo(s) of brand new Ju 88´s (four blader props) with similar or same shield (Unbrella in Gunsight), one photo I definately think dates from just after middle of October 1939.

Is this insignia (Umbrella in Gunsight) not "the original" of I/KG 25 (or maybe even one unit before) as one is known of Ju 88A-1 four-blader (4D)+AH with "pre-war standard" crosses (narrow type) under wings and on fuselage sides.

Larry,

Here a Photo from the "Luftwaffe Album" of Dressel & Griehl, showing a plane of I./KG 30

Re: Umbrella in a bombsight insignia of 1./KG30

First paragraf I mention is none of those now (again) on eBay. No. 1 and 2 are "old", 3 "new" (I had not seen +KH before). No. 4 is the latter I was referring to in my post.

I might add that these (three) appear as much less quality and different colour than those sold before. Therefore might there be different (other) copies in circulation?
