Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Hi Philipp

Lindenbergers WW1 claims, all scored with Jasta.B as a Leutnant are:-

1. 31st May 1918 Breguet Villers Cotterets
2. 1st June 1918 Breguet Priez
3. 18th August 1918 Breguet Moulin-Touvent
4. 20th August 1918 AR2 West of Champs
5. 31st August 1918 RE8 Honnecourt
6. 3rd September 1918 BF2b Combes area at 1805 hrs
7. 6th September 1918 Camel Lagnicourt
8. 30th October 1918 SE5 Harchies
9. 1st November 1918 SE5 South-East of Harchies

WW2:-

10. 28th September 1944 B-17 Hildesheim/Salzgitter at 1241 hrs at 8000 metres.
11. 28th September 1944 Mustang(for sure) Quedlingburg area at 1255 hrs at 500 metres.
12. 17th December 1944 B-24 Olmutz area at 1155 hrs at 7900 metres.
13. 17th December 1944 B-24 Olmutz area at 1157 hrs at 7900 metres.

I have just checked Micro films for type's on 28th September and his 11th was a Mustang not a bomber!

Regards

Johannes

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Here's a little known fact about Alfred Lindenberger. Not only was he a WWI ace and Sturmgruppe (Assault Group) commander in World War II, he was a member of Galland's Jagdverband 44, which operated Me 262s. At the end of the war, Lindenberger was brought to the United Sates to show Americans how to fly the Me 262.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Hi Barry,

interesting. Maybe that Lindenberger was member of the JV44. But not in the role as a pilot. At least in the well known Gutowski-paper of 27 04.45 he is not identified as one of its pilots.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Karl,

Lindenberger is one of the "unknown" pilots of Jagdverband 44. In his own writing from 1945, he identifies himself as a pilot of Jagdverband 44 and states that he trained American pilots to fly the Me 262 in the US. In order to be training pilots in the US, he had to have flown the 262 beforehand. I plan to write a small book about Lindenberger in the future.
