Crashsite of P-47 42-7975 of 56th FG, 7 November 1943

Hello,

Can someone give me the crashplace of the P-47D 42-7975 of 63rd FS, 56th FG on 7 November 1943 ? The pilot, 23 years old Flg Off Robert Emmett Sheehan, bailed out due to engine fire over Holland and landed near Helmond according to his Comete file (he was the first pilot of 56th FG to evade capture and return to UK).

Depending of sources, his aircraft crashed at Son en Breugel or at Duisburg. Several places bear the latter names in Netherlands but none is close to Son.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Hi Laurent.
The MACR gives the location as Doesburg, grid location 0608-5201 and is marked as being NE of Arnhem.
If you would like a copy of the MACR drop me a line,
wolfpack56(AT)btinternet.com (replace AT with @)

Hope this helps,
Nige

It's Son en Breugel just north of Eindhoven.

Thanks Jaap

Lampie, sorry for the type I wanted to write Doesburg. MACR locations are often the place where the aircraft was last seen, not the crash location. There are even places including a German crash report with precise location, but still giving the "loss location" as somewhere else.
