Just as an aside to this discussion, the same photograph was (poorly) reproduced in the following publication:

The caption reads:

Above: A group of pilots from JG 1 talk tactics with Rosarius (third from left) with the unit's Kommodore, Oberst Herbert Ihlefeld, next to him. The pilot standing in front of the P-47 (sixth from left) is Hptmn. Hans Philipp. He was killed on 8 October 1943 over Nordhorn while in combat with P-47s.

Hmmmmm! It is certainly not Hans Philipp.
