There is no trace or evidence of an RAF or USAAF aircraft, having a mishap on 23rd/24th July 1944 over Polish soil. My guess is an escape of allied aviators around the date and in the area. Shortly before, the failed Hitler assasination (July 20th, 1944) took place in Poland and some days later, a Goebbels speach how to handle Allied aviators (no care of police or military personnel, when civililans violate) was released in German newspapers. In this kind of atmosphere, it is possible, that even fled POW's were capitaly punished by any German military force. Best wishes ! Horst Weber |
