Ju52 D-AWAS lost 22 Jnauary 1944

Hi guys

What caused the loss of the above which was flying from Eretria to Greece? Enemy action or engine problems?

What was its mission and any VIPs among the 16 lost?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Ju52 D-AWAS lost 22 Jnauary 1944

Perhaps too technical for the board: D-AWAS was one of the rare Ju 52/3m reo with BMW 132 Dc and three-bladed propeller. The aircraft was originally built for South America, but it could not be delivered because of the war.
