unknown Ju2/3m emblem

An unidentified Ju 52/3m emblem is from eBay here. Can not find it in usual sources.

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

Fraud (repro)??? I have exactly the same photo! I bought it around 2 years ago. My photo was cut out from original JG 54 photo album.

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

Thanks for the warning. Fortunately I have no intention of buying it...but am still very interested to find out the identity of the emblem

...it does look similar to 1./JG 54 emblem, but I had not considered this as an option?

Fraud - repro ???

just let me say, that in that time, if one had a camera, mostly a lot of his comrades like a photo too. So it happens that you find the same pics in dozens of photo albums,
sometimes the photo studio writes at the back how many prints they did, the highest score I read was 47 prints of the same negative !

But for sure - today you must be careful, there also a lot of after the war prints around.

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

If someone offers several photos from the same unit/period/area etc. - there is no problem. Most likely everything is OK. But when only one aviation-related photo is offered, no additional info is given (i.e. unit, location) and I know that the same picture is in my collection/has already been published/offered by another seller - I am very careful.

BTW - it is crazy when people spend 150-200 EUR, to buy one photo which is just a repro. Everyone who visits E-Bay regularly knows that there is plenty of sellers offering repros as "100% original WW 2 photos". The first negative opinion = change of the E-Bay account.

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

The picture shows a well known Ju52 of 3./KGrzbV9 that made an emergency landing on May 10, 1940 at Kerken-Bönninghardt. See also discussion on LEMB. As far as I remember the picture is from the village archive, and has appeared in books before. Anybody can ask a copy, which is probably the reason it keeps on appearing.

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

Just a reminder, some of those who are new to collecting photos of German aircraft from the period generally have no idea what they are buying. Until I discovered ebay.de, I only searched ebay.com in the US. Then I had to learn what some terms meant like PK, AK, Feldpostkarte, and Archiv Foto.

Then, I was told by reliable sources that multiple photos were sometimes made at the same time for unit comrades. So, unless someone creates a sort of dictionary of terms for buyers, what else can be done?

With all due respect for this forum's administrator, the name 12 O'Clock High is, for me, the name of a movie and not immediately recognizable as a forum for those interested in Allied & Axis aircraft. My point is, some of those who want to buy photos on eBay have no idea this forum exists.

Regards,
Ed

Re: unknown Ju2/3m emblem

Thanks Pieter for your 3./KGrzbV 9 info! You must be right. I have been sure that this photo shows 1./JG 54 aircraft (over 2 years ago it was offered for sale with 1941 "Grünherz" photos).
