8./ KG40 loss

Does anyone have loss information for an 8. /KG 40 aircraft which was shot down 11.04.42?

The only crew member I have information on is Oberfeldwebel Ernst Schwarz who was the BS, Schwarz was killed not sure about balance of crew.

Regards

Jeremy

Re: 8./ KG40 loss

Hello,

The death card of Kahra says the aircraft was engaged in a 'Feindflug gegen England' (operational sortie against England), the GQM says Heimatflug however.
The crash occured at around half past three (Fold3).

Does anyone have an idea of what the purpose of this flight could have been?

Kind regards,
Timon

Re: 8./ KG40 loss

During the intervening years Chris G has found different data and said in his Fw 200 book that the aircraft
had been on an armed reconnaissance along the Spanish/Portuguese coast and hit the ground SE of Rennes
during their approach to land.

No doubt Chris himself will clarify things here.

Chris
With regard to the name of one of the crew, your book says Fl Hpt Naut Herbert Burmeister-Naut.
Was his work title 'Naut' really also included in his family name?
Also what was a Fl Hpt Naut?

Cheers
Stig

Re: 8./ KG40 loss

I am currently in SW France but the rank was Flieger Hauptnautiker and if you look at the other names in the book, Naut. Refers to what his position was on the aircraft

He, he Chris

You're right - they all carry a hyphen - just did not see that....
So the main Navigator onboard then.

Enjoy your wine and dine in France. I am off to Camargue on the 15th myself, so will try and catch up!!

Cheers
Stig

Lucky You

We have had rain for three days so far (one with mixed in snow) this week, with appx +3 - 5C each day.
Tell you one thing. Nothing beats an added heathy solid wind to top off things.

Still, I hope you wine and dine inside....

Take Care
Stig

The GQM loss return says
F (= Feindflug), not H (= Heimatflug)
Ursache/cause: Absturz infolge Bedienungsfehler/crash due to operating error
Verlustursache/loss category 20 = Totalverlust ohne Feindeinwirkung mit Feindauftrag / destroyed without enemy action on operational flight.

Leo
