A check of our lists shows nothing, therefore it is unlikely he was an officer.
A check of Tom Kracker’s Archive has yielded a small amount of info on this fellow: Karsten, Ewald. Born: 05.03.1910 in Riga/Latvia 17.04.45 a member of 2./KG 200 when he was shot down in a He 111 on a courier flight while en route to Berlin. He held a Bomber’s operations clasp. – therefore he must have flown a lot of missions This was mentioned in an article in Jägerblatt 5/2004. I hope that this helps. DGS
