A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
Hello folks,
Just found here the only second known picture of a Bf 109 G-10/R4 "Kanonenvogel" with the distinctive two underwing gondolas housing each a MG 1512/20 , taken in March 1945 at Strausberg: http://www.abar.de/serie/index.php/a...olge-18-teil14 This machine belonged to II. /JG 11. Cheers Marc |

Amy way to see a bigger image to confrim that this is a G-10?
That model seems to be mis-identified quite often... |

Re: A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
The Oil-cooler does look pretty beefy but on the other hand there's a shadow above the supercharger intake that looks very much like the "beule" of a G-6 or G-14...

Re: A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
Pilot,
You're most welcome. Harrison987, sorry, there is only this low-res jpeg affair... Only sure way to have a better res is to buy the book. Anders, Agreed, what made me jump is the big oil radiator. As for the shadow abve the supecharger air intake, well, you might be right. In all cases an odd machine. Here is the only high-res picture I know of an Bf 109 G-10/R5: "Yellow 9", unit unknown, abandonned early 1945 at Bad Lippspringe. Note the MG 151/20 canon tubes extending beyond the wings leading edges. Note that the bulge fairing as the camouflage scheme do point out for an Erla produced machine, in the W.Nr. 150 -152 XXX batches. Re: A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
About yellow 9, it could come from II./JG27, the aircraft in the background almost certainly does. No other unit used such a narrow tailband in that medium color...

Interesting point, Anders.
Anybody else could confirm this hypothesis? Does a fellow forum member have the W.Nr.list of the planes found at Bad Lippspringe? Cheers Marc |

Hi,
I'll try to get in contact with the photo owner to get a larger version of this interesting photo for my website. I hope to get a positive answer. Flc

Re: A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
Gentlemen,
if I get this right you are discussing the photo at the bottom of the Strausberg site that is referred to in the opening post, labelled there as a Bf 109 G-10/4 of II./JG 11 in March 1945 at Strausberg. This however is not really meet with the facts because what we see is a Bf 109 G-6 Y of 7./JG 11 seen in Northern Germany - most likely at Oldenburg airfield - in the summer of 1943. It belonged to 7. Staffel of III./JG 11, then newly established. This and another photo of the same a/c has been published in our current JFV series in Vol. 10 / III, p. 4, photo # 004. Hope this helps. Regards Jochen Prien |

Re: A unique Bf 109 G-10/R4 picture!
Dear Jochen,
Thanks so much for straightening the record about the so-called Bf 109 G-10/R5 told to be at Strausberg... So much for our hopes to see more about this so rare variant. Could I seize this opportunity to ask you for more details about the Bf 109 G-10/R5 "Gelbe 9" round at Bad Lippspringe? Was it a JG 27 machine? Any other pictures known? Thanks again Marc |
