FW200 Crash 21.10.41
I am looking for the exact codes on the FW200 that crashed in Obertalkhofen on 21.10.41 , I have seen two different codes being used in books , F8+KH and F8+EH . I would be very grateful if somebody could clear this up for me , thanks.

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
No codes given in the Lw loss record. It does say that it was a C-2, WNr. 0023.

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
While browsing at another forum I came across the attached photograph of a Fw200 Condor F8+KH which is the subject of Schnellmeyer's question.
One person asked was the photograph photoshopped or touched up as it shows a dark/black underside. Any ideas, is it genuine? Cheers |

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
This photo is genuine and to the best of my knowledge has not been photoshopped . In Chris Goss's excellent book on Luftwaffe Maritime Units this photo is also used . The Werks Nr. 0023 was given to this Condor , it later crashed , killing all the crew .

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
The code of the Fw 200C-2 WNr. 0023 that crashed during nightlanding on 21.10.41 was F8+EV.
The WNr. 0023 force-landed at Brest on 21.9.1940 and in the loss reports the code is said to be F8+EM but this is an error, most likely it was F8+EH. Regarding the photo of F8+KH it is not photoshopped, the Luftwaffe had 'washable' black paint to paint there planes for night operations. I./KG 40 used it for night operations in the summer and autumn of 1940. SchnellMeyer, on the Axis History Forum you say that the photo of F8+KH is taken over France in 1941 and it is WNr. 0023. What is your source for this information? The Fw 200C-2 were in autumn or winter 1940/41 fitted with C-3 type gun turret. And since F8+KH does not have the C-3 type turret I would think that this photo is taken in summer or autumn 1940. Regards, Johann Palsson |

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
Hi Johann , many thanks for your reply .The information that I got on F8+KH Wrk.nr 0023 came from Chris Goss's book on Luftwaffe Anti-Shipping Units 1939-41, see page 88 .
My reason for asking this question is that in August 20 1940 a FW200 F8+KH Werks nr.0015 of 1./KG40 crashed in Ireland and I was wondering was the Condor in the above photo the same one that crashed in Ireland ? I would be very grateful for any help in this matter . |

Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
Unlikely - Mr. Palsson has the code for the 2nd loss entry.
Fw200C-1, 0023, n.n., , 1., KG 40, weiße E, F8+EH, , , 21-Sep-40, Notlandung due to fuel shortage., , Atlantic, BoB, T&N, p.655; Mason, p.405, , Brest, 30%, F, , , Fw 200C-2, 0023, Betschler, Ltn. Hans (B)/Helleberg, Ofw. Heinz (F), , IV., KG 40, , , , , 21-Oct-41, Both killed due to Bruchlandung. 2.F, Bf, 2.Bf, Bm and Bs also killed, 1 injured., , Lfl.3/Deutschland, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. Re: FW200 Crash 21.10.41
F8+EH WNr. 0023 was taken on by 1./KG 40 on 31 July 1940, according to http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ght=Sea+Eagles. And it was damaged as F8+EH on 21.9.1940 and by the time it was repaired it would have had the same type of gun turret as Fw200C-3. (I have not seen any source for that 0023 was F8+KH so it is possible that 0023 was also F8+EH in early 1941)
So I think the F8+KH on the picture is not WNr. 0023 and is is taken in the summer or autumn of 1940. What is the source for that Fw 200C-2 WNr. 0015 was F8+KH? If WNr. 0015 was F8+KH I think that this is a picture of the Condor that crashed in Ireland on 20.8.1940. Regards, Johann Palsson |
