Re: Danube Mining

Peter, I found a fairly detailed list of RAF mining activity of River Danube in a Hungarian book. I can make scans for you, if requested.

Are you working on a new book related to the air war over wartime Slovakia? If so, I found no trace of any mine being dropped on the Slovak part of Danube (Bratislava and the surrounding area).

Re: Danube Mining

Hi Denes,

Scan of those information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Regarding mining in area of Slovakia, last two missions, in September and October were done between Esztergom and Bratislava. I have exact location for the mines dropped in this area.
Also last loss of a Wellington or a/c during these dangerous night missions happened in Slovakian bank of Danube river.

I plan to include all missions of mining, not just Slovakian area, but of course these two would be in detail...

regards

What I found is that the last two mining operations happened during the night of 19/20 of September and 4/5 October, respectively.

During the former mission, approx. 150 mines were dropped on the Southern bank of the Hungarian sector of the Danube, while on the latter mission about 58 mines were dropped on the Northern bank of the Hungarian sector of the Danube.

Re: Danube Mining

Hi Denes

4/5 Oct is correct, last mission.
But what is your source for 19/20 Sept? I supposed that 10/11 Sept was the one before last mission...
