Peter T,

No B-24 on 26 Aug 44 at first sight near Brussels. Closest are two in The Netherlands, not too far from the Belgian border: 42-50318 at Roosendaal and 42-95626 at Bergen-op-Zoom.

Regards,
Leendert

Re: B-24 lost 26 August 1944

Note that all the aircraft listed are from the 20th Bombardment Wing of the 2nd Air Division.

26AUG44 was 8th USAAF Mission #576 which targeted the I.G. Farben Chemical Works located at Ludwigshafen, Germany.

448th Bomb Group records indicate the following crash sights:
#41-28924 Mannheim, Germany
#42-50443 Germany
#42-50788 Germany
#42-95134 Rucheim/Ludwigshafen, Germany

Peter,

To complete the list: 41-29177 went down in the German-French border area just southwest of Saarbrücken.

Leendert
