Re: Do 215 sold to Russia

Hello Pawel,

Some years ago I assembled all Do215's I could find to put these into a database: I have 2 Do215's that were sold to the USSR, unfortunately the Werkenummer are unknown to me.

IF we could lay a hand on the Namentliche Verlustmeldungen from the Aufkl.Gr. ObdL and IF these do contain the Werkenummer from the early losses of this unit, we could fill in many gaps in our knowledge about the Do215. Only then, we can estimate which Werkenummer the Do215's had that went to the USSR. So far, I do not know whether someone is researching the history of this unit, do you?

Carl, so the exact subtype designation is missing in those files?

Kind regards,

Re: Do 215 sold to Russia

Pawel, you're right:

Only a single report gives the subtype as "B-4", all others are only a plain "215".

Re: Do 215 sold to Russia

Carl, I also have some trouble with entry - 07.03.1941 1. Staffel 0068 T5+BC - according to data available to me the date is 07.08.1941, aircraft was missing in Russia in Roslawl-Brjansk area which makes August 1941 more probable date.

Kind regards,
Pawel

Re: Do 215 sold to Russia

Pawel:

As for WNr. 0068 your information is correct. I simply missread a badly printed "8" as a "3". August 1941. Sorry

The a/c with the subtype is 0004. Subtype and tactical code are not from the WASt-report itself, but from an attached "Suchmeldung" (request for searching).

Re: Do 215 sold to Russia

Somewhat unrelated Do 215 -question

During Summer 1941 a Do 215 -kette from Aufkl.Gr.(F) Ob.d.Lw was based at Luonetjärvi, Finland. Photos exists of T5+AC and T5+GH (one source says +HH).

The interesting thing about the Do 215 T5+AC is that there are remains of German civil register on the wing upper and undersides. The register has been:
D-A_A_ where both of the letters "_" have curved underside (= C,J,O,S,U). One interpretation given is D-AJAJ and it is indeed possible that at least the last letter does have straight right arm and nothin on left (=J). Still I am not convinced, D-A_AC might also be possible (overpainting the first letters would have produced the kennzeichen T5+AC).

Does there exist any source to verify the German civil registrations from this period?

Thanking in advance,
Kari

Helo Marcel, with kind additions from Carl and assuming around 100 Do 215 were built (or converted) - last W.Nr. known is 0102 - I still have around 40% of W.Nr. missing Would you share your database for comparison?

Kind regards,
Pawel

Hello Pawel,

Of course I do! It's now 01.30 so if you don't mind I will get asleep in a few minutes and trying to send that MS Excel file tomorrow.

All the best, Marcel
