Kurt Geiler - who can help?

I'm from Germany and this is my first time posting in your forum. Glad to be here .

For quiet some time I have been researching about my grandfather, Kurt Geiler, born: 12. Sep. 1921. I am hoping to find someone here, who could help me with this.

A request at the german "Wast" brought the following:

1939: 3. Ausbildungskompanie Flieger/Regiment 21 Magdeburg
(Erkennungsmarke: -474- 3./A./Flg./Ausbildungs RGT 21)

1940: II Stuka Geschwader 2 „Immelmann“ / Luftflotte 3 / Westen VIII Flieger-Korps


1941: Reservelazarett 101 Berlin/Charlottenburg
1941: Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern


1944: stationed at Fliegerhorst Welzow, Germany


1945: rank: Feldwebel
1945: released from 71. Inf. Div. PWTE in Ulm, Germany



From my family it's told, that he crashed in march or april 1945 near Dresden Klotzsche and was badly wounded.

He was, I'm assuming not the whole war though, a gunner.

The losses for 45 are far from complete. I don't have him listed in my db, but due to the chaotic circumstances for the Lw at that time, it's not surprising. However, the fact that he was 'released' from the 71st Inf.Div. suggests that he may have been attached to that unit vs a flying unit at wars end. A lot of Lw aircrew were sent to ground units as units were disbanded or converted to different aircraft during the last months of the war. Many Stuka outfits converted to the Fw 190, and had only small Stuka detachments for anti-tank duties.

Uhmm, I think the reference is the US ARMY 71st Infantry Division POW camp.

It's also told, after the crash he was put in a barn with other wooded soldiers. Who brought him there I don't know. The russians, who eather put POW there or later took this barn or house, left all the badly wounded behind. Americans must have dicovered this "hospital" and took care of the wounded. I researched, that the 71st. Inf. Div. went pretty far east...

My mistake - the fact remains the losses are far from complete for the last months of the months of the war. Also thought St.G. 2 (SG 2) was still in the East. All the Stuka losses I have for them in the last couple of months are with Lfl.6. (assuming of course he was still with that unit!)

I know, the confirmed informations are quiet slim. - Do any of "your" losses match with april 1945, ju87 and dresden (klotzsche)?
