Re: Researching a WW11 Fighter Pilot. Charles Soden

Are you sure about the spelling? Phonetically Sowden can sound like Soden. Is it just because the Soden spelling is in your family that you show it that way?
If it is Flt Lt Ian Scovil Soden as identified, at 23 he had already been awarded the DSO, so must be a story there, so early in the fighting phase of the War.

Re: Researching a WW11 Fighter Pilot. Charles Soden

Good morning Icare9,

I well checked, and to my conclusion the only Fighter pilot named Soden in France on may 1940 was the one I tell about in my previous post.
Reading the events no wonder he was awarded the DSO.
He was a hero amongst so many others at this dramatical time.

Best regards.

Bernard.

My apologies, Bernard, your post squeezed in before my response to Cavalier.
I wasn't questioning you, but asking Cavalier if the spelling was accurate as Sowden could sound the same. I just wasn't as fast as you!!
It looks as if you have found the right guy, no doubt over the years memory is less than perfect and the written record would seem to be what we can rely on more.
A bientot!!
