Wow Peglar,

You're asking for something I never had the chance to see: a Fw 190 D-9 in flight...
Even after four books summing 1500 pages on the subject, none has surfaced so far...

Wish us good luck
Marc

Re: Fw 190 D 9

I can only recall two photos where a Dora is actually flying, and both appear in the old 1973/1975 "Six Months to Oblivion" by Werner Gerbig as well as several other books. One image, taken by an American cameraman, shows a Dora flying awfully close to a cluster of free falling US bombs and the other photo looks like a still from a home movie showing a Dora just rotating on take-off with bomb mounted beneath its fuselage (yellow 2 with the 2nd gruppe). Okay, not really what is requested, but I list these just to show the dire paucity of such material.

Fw 190 D-9 in Flight

Hi guys

In addition to the photograph of the Fw 190 D-9 flying near the falling bombs mentioned above I also remember the three gun camera stills sourced from www.thomasgenth.de/html/iii_jg_26.html which show the Fw 190 D-9 "Yellow 15" (W.Nr. 500 118) flown by Unteroffizier Karl-Georg Genth (2 victories) of 11./JG 26 being shot down near Enschede by F/O Vassilios Vassiliades (10 victories, killed in action 25 March 1945) of 3 Sqn, RAF on 7 March 1945 as his last victory.

I realize that this is not what Peglar is asking for but this does demonstrate that there are a few photographs of a Dora-9 in flight.

Horrido!

Leo

It's a Wochenschau newsreel and II./JG 6 IIRC. I've seen the sequence of the take-off somewhere. It may be available on the net if you search.
