Mosquito identity - Ebay photograph
Good night to all!
I've just lost a bid on Ebay of the following picture, depcting a Mosquito B.IV or PR.IV captured by the Germans. Firstly, I would like to congratulate the new owner. Then, I would like to know, IF we can identify the machine? Could it be a 521 Squadron machine? Someone has probably linked this machine as being a 627 Squadron B.IV lost on 8th January 1944... Any ideas/guesses? Yours PS: the link: http://cgi.ebay.de/altes-Foto-abgest...item255f56ec38 |

Re: Mosquito identity - Ebay photograph
Hi Adriani,
IIRC this was a PRU Mosquito belly landed somewhere at the French or Belgium coast... I might be wrong, but there may have been some discussions in the past about that PRU Mossie. Good luck! Hans Nauta Last edited by Hans Nauta; 7th December 2010 at 20:22. Reason: typo |

ANDY and HANS,
I have seen some photographs of DZ466 on a beach, but the Mosquito is on its landing gears and covered with camouflage nets... I will check on next weekend the 521 Squadron and PRU losses. Thanks for your inputs. Adriano |

This is one of my favourite aircraft and strangely (or not) I started enjoyed it throught comic books that I had as a child (including a Tintin adventure)

Might also be DK328 on a beach near the Gironde estuary, though I'm away from my books ("Mosquito Thunder" has a pic) so can't compare.

the pine trees in the background look very much like Gironde area trees.

Re: Mosquito identity - Ebay photograph
DZ466 should have a seawall off its starboard wing. The sharp colour split on the Mosquito above is very reminiscent of DK328, as is the canopy which appears to have had the escape hatch removed.

Re: Mosquito identity - Ebay photograph
Hi
From the list of previous issues, in the back pages of Beuteauswertung Nr22. It seems that the first mosquito available for detailed examination was prior to issue Nr2, 15 october 1942, and issue Nr 3, 25 october 1942, both on the D.H. Mosquito. I have seen three other issues of these type of documents ( for the mustang, spitfire & allied aircraft engines) and they all show photos of crashed a/c. So does anyone know the first mosquito to be captured ? Was it ... DK317 11 oct 42 DK339 9 oct 42 DZ341 11 oct 42 presumably two issues of the document would either cover two aircraft examples crashed within a few days of each other. or an in detail report of one aircraft crash. cheers Jerry |

Re: Mosquito identity - Ebay photograph
Jerry,
Firstly thanks for the new information ( at least for me! ) about this document tittled Beuteauswertung. It would be very interesting to see one of the kind. I can guess this is some kind of Technical Note, from an enemy aircraft, with photos (from the information you wrote) and details of the crash site...some kind of report the Accident Investigators do nowadays. Your email seems to suggest that the picture at e-bay is not also from DK328...being possibly one of the first three Mosquitos captured by the Germans ( back in October 1942 ). THIS is a NEW point of start..which can led us to a positive result/match...Thanks for helping! Let's hope someone will help identify the Mosquito on the picture... PS: The picture at e-bay IS NOT from DZ466...this is sure! Yours ( and thanking all those persons who have helped us so far ). Adriano Baumgartner |
