Wim de Meester is an unknown quantity at this point
night 16/17 September 1944

On 17 September 1944 at 03.15 hrs, Flak commander Flushing received message from the Seekommandant that 6 He 111's were to fly over between 03.00 and 04.00 hrs, with an expected return between 05.00 - 06.00 hrs. My question is what unit this could have been and what about the task (supply, mine-laying) they were expected to carry out?

At the same night but a little earlier, at 01.50 hours, F/L Edinger of 410 Sqn claimed an unidentified a/c over Walcheren Island, which crashed into sea during violent turns in trying to escape the Mosquito.

Who can help me in identifying these a/c and crews?

Re: night 16/17 September 1944

Air launching of V1's of III/KG3 target London a possibility. 5K+ET hit by own flak on return and ditched in a Lake crew of Uffz.Jordens safe. No He111 to link to the 410 Sqd. claim as far as I could see,

The short interval between exit and entry times certainly looks like V-1 launching. Supply flights to the besieged Channel and Atlantic ports would have needed longer flights, except perhaps to Dunkerque.

Nick, I wondered about I/TG30 but a check of their NVM's showed no crewmen lost this night,

We've had this one before - I thought the crash was likely a 487 Sqn Mossie.

Re: night 16/17 September 1944

? No reports of V-1s over or off the Suffolk coast between Lowestoft and Felixstowe in the early hours of 17 Sept 1944. Several in the early hours of 16 Sept and then none until early hours of 19 Sept.
