Me 110 question
Hello,
a very happy New Year to you all, particularly to those who can contribute to the answers of the following questions: The last series of the Me 110 was the G-4 night fighter. It was planned to have the G series be followed by the H series, the main feature of that being the installation of DB 605 D engines. This change was to be accompanied by a couple of other modifications, among them a retractable tail wheel and rounded wing tips; also the lengthening of the rearmost fuselage section was considered. Now the Me 110 H never went into production because no DB 605 D engines were available (they were reserved for the last Me 109s). However, I read in some of my books (sorry that I cannot be more precise; I spent a couple of hours in vain trying to find it again) that some of the features planned for the H were incorporated into the last G aircraft produced. Now I would like to know: Were there any 110 Gs with a retractable tailwheel or rounded wing tips? Was lengthening the fuselage dismissed, as I believe? There are photos of very late G-4s with completely redesigned flame dampers (by a company named Eberspächer). Were those too modifications originallly designed for the H? Best wishes again, klemchen |

Re: Me 110 question
The flame dampers were changed, late in the Gs production run, in order to reduce drag. I have not seen reference to the H in that regard. Perhaps one of our 110 experts can jump in.
