Re: Lt. Porter 354.FG loss?

Peter,

2nd Lt R.K. Porter was shot down in Berlin area in dogfight with ME-410s.
His P-51 was 43-12300.

354 FG was escorting B-24s on mission to Genshagen near Berlin.

Lt Porter apparently in 356th FS.

Re: Lt. Porter 354.FG loss?

I have finally found some info. for you on 2LT Robert K. Porter, Jr. Ser. #O-759075 of Sherman, Texas:

Joined the 355th FS of the 354FG in April/May, 1944. On 21 June 44 he was flying Red Four (lead flight) on an escort mission to protect bombers of the 8AF which were flying a bombing mission to Berlin. They were attacked by ME-410 twin-engine fighters, likely from their base at Dahme, Germany.
His wings were torn off due to an explosion and his a/c crashed near Riedebeck (buried in the Riedebeck-Niederlausitz community cemetery). His
downing was credited Uffz Barth who was flying a ME-410 of ZG 76/5.

LT Porter was flying a P-51B-1 ser. # 43-12320 with sqdn. marking GQ-G. The MACR #6666 was not found online. GQ-G was assigned to Robert W. Schrock who was from Saginaw, Michigan (middle eastern side of Michigan, near Bay City) and the a/c was named "Kid Saginaw".

I have not found any photos of LT Porter for you. Attached is a German crash report. Hope this info. is of some help to you.
