He111 WNr. in 1940 or later

Hello,

The EOE Working Group is trying to determine if either He111 WNr.5571 or 5577 appears in Luftwaffe records after 12.5.40? An He111 with one of these W.Nr. crashed in Holland on that date, and we're trying to confirm which W.Nr. is valid for that crash. If either of these appears later, that eliminates that one as a candidate.

Thanx,

Re: He111 WNr. in 1940 or later

From the list of changes (Übersichtliste der Ändersungs-anweisungen) for
He 111 issued by Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke GmbH, Seestadt Rostock 1.4.1942, there is an entry for 12.3.1940 for W.Nr. 5583 an He 111H-2 produced by HWO (Heinkel-Werke Oldenburg). It seems that this is the last aircraft of this H-2 series. W.Nr. 5600 is the first of a series of He 111H-4 from ATG production.

Re: He111 WNr. in 1940 or later

5592/5594/5599 nd 5600 Are still given as H-2 5601 first H-3 from ATG

It seems the 5577 don't appear in the loss lists for 41/42/43 nd by the second lines units , but 5571 was lost on 27.march 1940 near Sellnrod with ST.KG1, to add 557X serie popular with KG1 ,

Re: He111 WNr. in 1940 or later

Rémi,

Thank you so much for this information. Can you please cite a source for the W.Nr. of the Sellnrod He111H-2? Here is what we currently carry in the EOE loss DB on that one:

27. March 1940
Stabsstaffel KG1 Heinkel He111H-2. Crashed and burned out at Sellnrod, 35 km east of Giessen, due to engine failure on return from combat sortie. (Ff) Uffz Erich Keerl, (Beo) Hptm Johann Tippmann (Stabstaffelkapitän), (Bf) Uffz Walter Volzer, and (Bm) Uffz Willi Klinkert all killed. Aircraft 100% write-off.

Obviously we don't have a W.Nr. assigned to this incident, and I'd very much like to add your info to this entry, if we can determine the source. This confirms that the He111H-2 1T+EL, of 3./KGr.126, down near Hoogerheide, Netherlands, on 12.5.40 was 5577, not 5571, as is currently reported in "The Battle of France Then and Now." This is one of the hundreds of changes, additions and corrections that Peter Cornwell has made to the Luftwaffe loss DB for 1939-40 as a result of the EOE research project.

Incidentally, I'm looking for photos of 1T+AL, the a/c of the StaKap, Oblt. Friedrich Sawade, which crashed about 1 km distant from 1T+EL in the same combat. We have excellent photos of the latter in our EOE DB, but none of the former. Does anyone have such photos of the crashed 1T+AL?

Warm regards,

Re: He111 WNr. in 1940 or later

Hello Larry,

Data come from a book called "Bild KG1" or something around that , Peglar is also aware of , so 1 day or another he will add his 2 or 3 pennies,

The code V4+DA, date could be also 26. of march
