Uffz Karl Roos (Do217K-1; U5+DP;w/nr 4584 6./KG2) was shot down on 16 May 1943. He was shot down by F/O B.R. Keele(with F/O G. Cowles) in Beaufighter V8617 of No. 604 Sqdn, Scorton. KG2's target was the port installations at Sunderland. U5+DP crashed into the sea c. 35 miles East of Sunderland. Roos' body was washed ashore at Blackhall Rocks (South of Sunderalnd) on 30 June 1943 and he was buried at Acklam Cemetery, Thornaby on Tees under that date.
